Helping abandoned children

THIS PROJECT IS NOW CLSED. MOST OF THE CHILDREN WE LOOKED AFTER WERE REINTEGRATED IN THEIR NATURAL FAMILY OR SENT INTO FOSTER AND ADOPTIVE FAMILIES. MANY THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO OFFERED THEIR HELP!

Loving the People is a volunteering group helping abandoned children in Oradea, Romania. The message that this web site conveys comes straight from the mouths of the volunteers at work now in the Children's Hospital, Oradea. Our love and interest for the abandoned children of Romania is mainly as a result of the love God shows for each of us.

At the moment we help and support the abandoned children from the second floor of Children's Hospital Oradea. The average number of abandoned children we help is 10 but sometimes we assist more children. The abandoned children we help are aged between weeks and months old, sometimes we have elder children too. Since 1996 when we first started to help abandoned children, your donations made possible the volunteer work with more then 200 abandoned children.
These abandoned children usually have families but their families suffer from poverty and can't afford to take care of them. Most of the abandoned children come from gypsies families where there is a high need for information on family planning and contraception. It is not unusuall that an abandoned child has many other brothers or sisters also abandoned in the same hospital, in orphanages or other similar institutions for abandoned children. So, there are mothers who even if they could see that they can't take a good care of their children they still continue to give birth to other children and finally abandon them also.

More about our volunteer work with abandoned children

The abandoned children are helped by our volunteers with the support of your donations. That support consist in offering the children additional food, clothing, toys etc. We also have a nice play room where we take the children to play with and stimulate them to sit, walk and talk, to play and enjoy company with other children. That is important because the most of the abandoned children spend most of their time in hospital beds without being taked out of them. That not because they are ill, but because the hospitall staff is not trained and payed to do more for them. This is why we are in a constant need for volunteers and people interested to support and help us make a difference in these children lives.
The abandoned children are helped by our volunteers with the support of your donations. Your donations make possible the volunteer work with the abandoned children, otherwise the help we provide would be just our love we have for them. The abandoned children are helped by our volunteers with the support of your donations. Your donations make possible the volunteer work with the abandoned children That is very important of course, but not enough for a good developing of a child. What exactly we mean when we say that"The abandoned children are helped by our volunteers with the support of your donations. Your donations make possible the volunteer work with the abandoned children"? We mean that without donations and people interested to come here and work as volunteers helping the children directly the situations for the children would be very critical. When I first entered the Hospital in 1999 I could see lots of abandoned children age 3 or more who could not even sit by themselves speak less of walk and talk. Their hands were bended by their beds, sometime they have both their hands and legs bended so they won't try to get out of beds and fall or hurt themselves-speciffic behaviour for the children who do not receive enough love and attention. Those children were very difficult to be recovered and some of them left with definitive scars that will affect them all their life. Now the situation is changed with the help of many wonderful people who offered to come here to support us and work as volunteers or just donate money or children's staff (clothing, toys, vitamins, cereals etc) for these children. Still, we are in a constant need of donations for the abandoned children.

Our future projects involving abandoned children

The abandoned children are helped by our volunteers with the support of your donations. Your donations make possible the volunteer work with the abandoned childrenAlso, we are very much interested in finding someone who has a heart for these children and would like to assist us in creating a way to auto sustain at least a part of the costs we have here. We are thinking of things like : creating a shop where to sell products that came from donations so we can use the money for the needs of the abandoned children etc. That will help us to not depend entirely on donations and sponsors. I know that even our sponosrs would like to see that they help us to help ourselves.
For the future we are also interested in creating programs for gypsy families and help them know more about family planning and contraceptions. That will be a preventive method that will reduce very much the number of the abandoned children that constantly come into the hospitals.

Finally we are interested in creating transit houses for the abandoned children, where with the help of our sponsors we can keep the children till we find them suitable and loving families. That will help the abandoned children leave the hospital-a place that is totally wrong for them to be in, and to care for them in houses very much similar with a normal family. That will help the children receive the love and attention they need for their normal development.

By visiting our site you will be able to find out more about who are we, whom do we help, who support us and how you can get involved in our work. If you have any questions or suggestions about our work with the abandoned children, please do not hesitate to contact us!
