Quincy Fire News

Spring 2006

Welcome Back to the QFD Webpage

Once again, it has been a long time since our last update and I want to thank those of you who periodically checked back here, I appreciate your patience.

Quite frankly, since last summer there hasn't been much to add.  Fire activity was down thanks to the diligence of the residents of  Quincy in cooperation with the rules and ordinances of our Fire Prevention division.

New Ordinance for CO Detectors

As of April 1 all residences are required to have Carbon Monoxide detectors installed on every level of habitation in your homes.  Please contact our Fire Prevention office at 376-1015 for details

Hydrant Problem Resolved

Over the winter, it was determined that we had a hydrant problem in Quincy.  The fire fighters spent months opening and performing maintenance on the hydrants, finding the inoperative ones, and with the cooperation of the Water Department resolved the problem.

8 New recruits

We have 8 new recruits in the fire academy to help fill the holes left by the mass exodus of personnel in the past 4 years.  Since I started at Quincy in Oct 2001, There have been over 50 fire fighters hired which still doesn't replace all of the men who have retired 1 for 1.

It has been an astonishing turn-over but we now have a mix of enthusiastic, well trained group of young men led by experienced and knowledgeable ranks of senior fire fighters and fire officers which will continue to provide the best of protection to Quincy for years to come.

Fire Study Concludes

The fire study has been completed and as soon as I am able, I will publish the results.  There are some grumblings floating around about the results but I wont publish anything here until I see confirmed information.
