A child can have so much fun gardening and learn alot about nature too.

Start by growing plants that a child and their family can eat and enjoy together. Vegetables such as, lettuce, spinach, green beans, cherry tomatoes, pole beans and cucumbers are easy to grow.

For more fun, you can make a living teepee for the kids. Start by setting up 6 poles, teepee style and planting seeds such as, cucumber and pole beans (vines). In no time, they will grow up the poles. I have added another link below to a step by step guide to building one.

For flower gardening, make sure the flowers are bright colored and big. These can be used as a cut flowers for bouquets at the dinner table. Zinnias (the first picture above) and marigolds (the second picture) are the easiest to grow. Fragrant smelling plants, sweet peas, geraniums, lily-of-the-valley, and dianthus. Big flowers, hibiscus, sunflowers, dahlias, oriental lilies, and joe pye weed. More flowers to have are snapdragons, hollyhocks, and nasturtiums. Some of the easiest to grow from seed is sweet peas, dianthus, and sunflowers. You can also buy plants from your local gardening center, etc. for instant beauty in a childs garden.
