Loving Remembrance

Rest in Peace

Alex was an animal lover. He had over the years, raised and handled cats, dogs, ferrets, and sugar-gliders, the latter of which I never heard of, until I met him. What made this all so remarkable, was that he had allergies, all along. What's to stop a guy with so much heart?

Alex was partnered to Mark, for the last 10 years. On my first visit in the late Summer of '01, shortly before 9/11, I took this picture of the two, in Rutherford, NJ, during a Labor Day Fleemarket.

Alex threw New Year's Parties, in his cluttered, smallish Mid-Town Manhattan Apartment, inviting 20-30 or more guys. I had the pleasure of attending the 2000/2001 party.

Alex helped me become a better artist, and was the first person, other than myself, I ever put on canvas. His good looks lent themselves beautifully, though that built-in critical facility of mine and every artist, never had me believe, that I did perfect justice to him. Today, painting is my livelihood.

In conclusion,

I believe that Alex was sent to us, who have had the privilege to call him a friend, to inspire us to live life to the fullest. It was up to me to give that effort, and I failed. When Alex was ill, I made sure he got all the good kharma he could get, forwarding "Get well" emails to him, from my friends, who had never met him, but heard about his importance in my life. It was the best, I think, I had ever truly done for him. Maybe the only thing. I realize I truly loved him only, the way a limited man like myself was capable of, and that was far from suitable, I realize But honestly, I was never fit to be his friend
