GM Rock River Block

In the spring of 2001 I purchased a new Kia Rio from Rock River Kia in Rockford Illinois
The car came with a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty and a 5 year roadside assistance warranty
At 43,000 miles the engine failed despite proper maintenance
Rock River Kia refuses To honor warranty
Claims the oil was not changed enough
I produced oil change receipts proving the car had been properly maintained
Click on links at left to see receipts. For reasons of privacy my name and address have been blanked. Rock River Kia knows who I am though. I faxed these same receipts, with my name clearly visible to the Rock Rive Block. I also informed them that I intended to create this website. Their
response, "do what you think you gotta do". Rock River Kia still REFUSES to honor warranty Some of you have written and
said I should concentrate more on the car maker as they issue the warranty. The manufacturer
does issue the warranty, but in my opinion Rock River Kia is also to blame in this instance. At one time the
manufacturer was responsible for all warranty costs. When you took your car, or any product,
to a dealer they would find all kinds of things that needed repairs and the manufacturer would
be charged. The manufacturers finally got smart and many now require that the dealer share the cost
of warranty work. At one company I worked for we, the manufacturer, only covered 50% of the
warranty cost, the dealer paid the rest. This was part of the price to be a dealer of our
products and warranty costs dropped. I have no proof that this is the arrangement between Kia
and Rock River Kia but I suspect that it is the case. I think that Rock River Kia does not want to cover
their part of the warranty costs. So, blame the problem on the consumer, do not honor the
warranty and save a few dollars. This has sure taught me not to buy a foreign car, or anything from the Rock River Block When a car dealer gets away with
something like this it not only affects the owner, but everyone who will ever buy a car. If they can
get away with it with once they will try it again. The next time it might be you. If one dealer gets
away with it you can be sure others will try the same thing.
