Old Photos Types

Cabinet Cards
The earliest cabinet portraits, introduced in 1866, were a larger version of the plain Bristol board carte de visite stock with the usual gilt borders.
Ambrotype
The Ambrotype photo has a low contrast, grayish white appearance and consists of a glass plate supporting a collodion image, which is very similar to its cousin, the tintype old photo (ferrotype process).
Carte de visite
The carte de visite is easily recognized by the small card on which the photograph is mounted.
Tintype
The tintype had one of the longest periods of popularity of any early photograph type, lasting from the mid 1850s to the 1930s mostly at county fairs.

Collecting old photos

Collecting old photos, postcards and other vintage photographs and other collectibles is a great passion for many collectors around the world. I myself started to collect old photos and postcards about one year ago and find it very interesting.

Old photos are like history books, if you know how to "read" them. From collections you can find out how people use to dress, how were the buildings designed, what transportations "tools" they used, how did they play etc. Also, you can learn more about the other's cultures old times.

Old photos keep a light open on eras already gone, they're like windows to the past. If you want to know more about old times, start collecting old photos. You'll be surprised how many new things you'll find out and how satisfactory this hobby may be.

Because old photos and postcards are not easy to find, I thought to offer people the opportunity to buy them here for a very affordable price. This because old photos and postcards are not a business for me but a passion and I want to share this passion with as many people as possible.

In this web site you can periodically see other old photos, as I update my web site periodically. The old photos we have now are described separately. You will find out more about the estimated time when the photos were taken, the photo's condition, what does it represent and of course the price. However the prices can be negotiated, if you want to buy more photos. If you don't find the photos you need I suggest you go to Amazon or Go Antiquities.
