BA-43  JACOBSVILLE, MARYLAND. This site was opened in 1954 and closed in Dec 1962. It was a Nike Ajax only site, having not been chosen for upgrade to the Nike Hercules system. The site is now owned by the county school system. The administration area is being used for school offices while the launch area is being used for storage and maintenance work. At one time at least two of the magazines were being used for storage. Now only one is being used and that elevator recently broke. I didn't see any indications of the IFC (radar) in the administration area but I spent most of my time in the launch area.

The following units manned BA-43:

I have been contacted by an individual (B.R. Blaydes kiki@tigerpaw.com) was part of the team that activated this site in early 1956. He has informed me that the unit assigned to activating this site was Battery B, 602nd Anti Aircraft Missile Battalion.

Battery C, 36th Anti Aircraft Missile Battalion. 1956 to  9/58
Battery C, 1st Missile Battalion, 562nd Artillery. 9/58 to 3/60
Battery A, 1st Missile Battalion, 70th Artillery. 3/60 to 12/62

Administration area

Magazine entrance with magazine in the background. This entrance was filled with junk like the flowered chair in the foreground

Another magazine entrance with air intake behind it.

Magazine doors painted by the school people. The magazine was used for storage by the schools.

Here is another magazine that was used for storage. The school people told me it is filled with burnt out florescent bulbs. They said the elevator recently broke. Notice that the elevator is in the up position but is sitting at an angle. You can see that the elevator is not all the was up at one end of the magazine.
