BA-79 GRANITE,MARYLAND
This
site was opened in 1954. It was a double site. Meaning it could track and
engage two targets. There were six magazines and the extra radar to support
the second battery. The following units manned the site: A Battery, 54th
AA Missile Battalion. A Battery, 602nd AA Missile Battalion. A Battery,
4th Missile Battalion, 5th Artillery. B Battery, 4th Missile Battalion,
1st Artillery. A Battery, 2nd Missile Battalion, 70th Artillery. HHB &
B Battery, 1st Battalion, 70th Air Defense Artillery. This is a very large
site. The IFC is huge, biggest I've seen. Two of the magazines are accessible
though there is about 6" of water in each. The launch area is being used
as a police training facility. It appears the IFC is not being used at
this time.

My daughter
Theresa next to open hatch. Nope, I couldn't get her to go down.
Here's what
it looks like down the hatch.
