SF-88 Ft Barry, California This site was opened in 1955. The site was manned by A Battery, 9th Anti Aircraft Missile Battalion; then A Battery, 2nd Missile Battalion, 51 Artillery and finally B Battery, 1st Battalion, 61st Air Defense Artillery. These were unit designation changes only. The site closed in 1974. The launch area has been restored. Visitors can see Nike Ajax and Hercules missiles, a missile magazine with operating elevator, radar and several buildings. These pictures are from my visit there in Jan 1999. The IFC is located on a nearby mountain top. The road leading to it has washed away so I was not able to go there. It would of been a heck of a climb anyway.
