God's Word and the Twelve Steps

It just makes sense to combine the word of God and our twelve step program. The twelve steps are based on principles in the Bible, which was AA's primary source of reading material in the beginning. AA is a spiritual program as opposed to a religious one, just as the Bible is a spiritual, not a religious, book. The Bible does not promote any one religion-it speaks of God's love for us and provides principles for a way of life everlasting. The twelve steps provide a way of life that leads to lasting relationships with God and others. Of course, we start with STEP ONE.

God,

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

courage to change the things I can,

and the wisdom to know the difference. Amen.

Always do right; this will gratify some people
and astonish the rest. --Mark Twain

As you go through life you may at times feel like you are getting
heavier and more burdened down with responsibilities, and your
body may even reflect this as you walk around with your head
hanging heavily towards the ground. You can, however, change
your attitude towards the situation - learn to stop taking life so
seriously, have some fun and games and lighten up. Perhaps
in the middle of a heavy business meeting you suddenly think
of something which makes you laugh to yourself, or you may
decide to plan a weekend away with a loved one to help you
forget about your heavy responsibilities for a while. There are
many things you can do, but learning to laugh instead of cry
at times when your life is bursting at the seams may really help.
