Great Highway

Length: 4 miles (limited access portion), 6 miles (entire route)
Routing in SF: Between Sloat Boulevard and Lincoln Way
Construction: Unknown
Route Numbering: CA 35 (unconfirmed arbitrary designation)

The Great Highway is arguably the most scienic route in The City, passing directly by Ocean Beach and the Pacific coast.  Originally proposed as freeway in 1953, this access-less portion between Sloat and Lincoln may have been built for potential upgrade, much like Park Presidio Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard, and the Geary Expressway.

Currently, because the route was never fully converted to freeway, 10-15 stoplights exist for pedestrian access into the beach (parking on the Old Great Highway).  There are no cross-streets onto the route, though - all Sunset District streets end at either La Playa or Old Great Highway.

Construction dates are unknown, but the limited-access Great Highway may have been once part of Ocean Beach itself, with Old Great Highway being the beachside road.  This is unconfirmed, though.
