Randy’s Thistle
Resources
The Thistle Class Association (TCA) is structured around local fleets
(approximately 100 throughout the country) which are then organized into
geographical districts. Fleets are often based out of a yacht club or sailing club. A
district governor (DG) is elected to oversee the district activities for the
year. The National Organization (TCA) coordinates and supports the districts
and fleets.
Joining the TCA has several advantages including the ability to
compete in sanctioned Thistle events, receipt of the "Green Book",
and a subscription to the award winning bi-monthly Bagpipe Thistle class
magazine. The "Green Book" contains the Thistle class rules,
membership roster, and a set of plans for the Thistle. The Bagpipe is a valuable
resource for Thistlers, providing; news about Thistle events, "how
to" advice from other Thistlers, tuning and rigging information,
classified advertising for boats and gear, and much more.
TCA Dues are:
To join the Thistle Class and start receiving the Bagpipe, send your dues and
your name, address, zip code, phone numbers, boat number, and type of
membership desired to: Carol Hudson
- 2198 Story Ave., Niskayuna, NY 12309. If you will be affiliated with a fleet,
also include the fleet name and/or number. Once you join, you will receive 2
measurement forms. This will indicate all of the proper measurements for
certain key items that keep our boats and class "one-design". You
will need a skipper of a registered boat to help you measure and sign your
form. Send in the completed forms with $10 and your Thistle membership card and
the card will be stamped "registered" and returned to you. The
majority of our regattas are sanctioned by the class, and therefore require
your boat to be registered and measured.
For more information on the class, contact Kerry Nielan, VP Growth &
Promotion, or Carol Hudson,
class Secretary. Carol's other contact info: 2198 Story Ave., Niskayuna, NY
