Trona, located in the Searles Valley on Hwy 178 in the Greater Mojave Desert. A very historical and scenically rich place to visit. Sporting great valley views of the Slate and Argus Mountains, beautiful sunsets and sunrises. A Photographers heaven! Trona, home to Searles Lake formed during the Ice Ages containing 98 of the 104 natural chemical elements. Visitors come from all over to take advantage of the opportunity to gather and see some of the great minerals found in Searles Lake, such as Hanksite,Halite, Pink Halite and more, during the Gem-O-Rama sponsored by the Searles Lake Gem and Mineral Society which only happens one time per year.
Home to Trona Pinnacles National Natural Landmark which consist of more then 500 tufa spires. Trona Pinnacles has been the site of many movies and commercials because of it's prehistoric mystical appeal. Star Trek 5, Tim Burton's Planet Of the Apes, and Disney's Dinosaur to name a few have all filmed scenes at the Trona Pinnacles.
Trona offers something for every visitor, from hiking to sight seeing to the historical sites around town such as the History House(one of the oldest residential houses in Trona)built around 1920. Trona Railway Museum and Caboose, Old Guest House Museum and 1924 Struz Fire Truck and 1938 Ahrens-Fox Fire Truck, housed at the Argus Fire Station.
Trona, is a nice starting location for those that plan on seeing some of the other points of interest that Searles Valley has to offer, with gas, food and lodging available in town, Trona is a great place to visit.

Trona Pinnacles
Located 12 miles south of Trona
on Hwy 178.

Salt Wells Canyon
Commonly called"Poison canyon"
This canyon was the route of the 20-mule teams
that hauled borax from Searles Lake to San Pedro
On the north side of the canyon near the east end
is "Fish Head Rocks". Originally called "Whale Heads"

Valley Wells
California Registered Historical Landmark No. 443

Great Falls Canyon
In the spring a spring flows through the canyon surrounded by
high canyon walls. Tumbling over four falls up to 25 feet high.

Homewood canyon
A desert mountain community. Beautiful yards and gardens all
watered with spring and well water. Ten miles north of Trona, in the Argus mountains.

Slate Range Crossing
Where Trona/Wildrose Road cross the Slate Range views of Panamint Valley,
Panamint Mountains, and telescope Peak 11,049 ft. Higher peaks usually covered with snow in the winter and spring.
