First Project March 21st. 2002
13285 Yucca Street, Trona, Ca.
This is a home that had been taken over by
Squatters,
which was beginning to be a real eye sore.
After checking on the home for our "Trona Care
Group",
we found that the owner of this property resides in
Florida. we sent her a letter in regards to what was
happening to her home, followed up by phone call. She
was shocked to hear of the condition of her home. She
said she would call the San Bernardino County Sheriff
office. The owner called Tim Parnell, our Corporal
for the Trona Sheriff Sub-station, and told him she
had not rented this house to anyone in three years.
There should be no one living in her house. Officer
Parnell contacted the gentleman squatter and advised
that he could not be there, and must vacate the
premises.
The house is in terrible condition with lots of
trash, nothing left but the shell. The Owner was very
happy to have our "Trona Care Group" with a
number of local volunteers to clean and board her
property.
Offers were made and accepted for the plywood needed
to board the windows by Gary Hess our local dentist
and a member of the Trona Elks and Lions Club.
Arrangements were made with Trona Hardware and the
plywood would be delivered at cost for this project.
The Searles domestic Water Company, offered to haul
away all the trash if we would place it on the curb.
Stan Clift from The Boys Scouts offered his help, by
bringing a sheet of plywood, drill, screws and to help
board up the windows and haul trash if necessary.
Ruth Soto from the Trona School Counselor's office is
involved with the "Trona Care Group". She
stated she would try to find a couple children or
adults to help with this project. She had a few kids
that needed extra credit for Community Service. She
also showed up to help and brought Linda Phillips,
also with Trona School
Ginny Swartz from the Trona Community Church stated
she would try to find us some helping hands.
Other Volunteers that arrived with rakes and shovels
ready for work were:
Travis Ball
J.T Thompson
Roseann Austin of the (C.O.P.S.)
Tim Parnell
Jackie Leonard
Bonnie Fairchild
Tony Ducomomcin
Connie Courto
Kim Byerley, she provided electric for the project
from her home.
We would like to thank everyone for
showing such generosity and care. For volunteering to
help and for working so hard. Without everyone
pulling together this project would not have been
possible. Thank You!
